Did you notice that the title above has "Help to live a Holy life" in it? There is a very important reason I have written it this way. You see, Christ Jesus chose to sacrifice just continuing to live in perfect Heaven, in order to come to earth and become one of us and go through what we go through, from conception to death; taking upon Himself our sicknesses and diseases; being beaten so that by His stripes we are healed; fasting 40 days and 40 nights to be tested by the Devil; become a man of sorrows acquainted with grief; suffer tortuously in every way; and die on the cross to take our punishment for our sins upon Himself (even though He did not sin); so that we can be forgiven... He did all of this because we do sin and need to make a sincere decision to stop if we want to spend eternity with God in His Kingdom of Heaven instead of spending eternity separated from God suffering in Hell. You see if we really chose to believe in Christ Jesus, we are choosing to believe in who He really is, which is God. We are choosing to believe what He says, and He says to stop sinning. He also understands that on our own we cannot perfectly stop. That is why He saves us by HIs doing instead of our own doing. All He asks is that we believe in Him, and because we do, we sincerely commit ourselves to make the effort to not sin anymore. Can you imagine God letting our wrongdoing damage life in Heaven as it does here on earth? We really need to be held accountable for our wrongdoing. But when we choose to sincerely believe in Christ Jesus, His sinlessness is accounted to us! We are saved by His perfection, not our own. What a wonderful and marvelous thing God has done for us! It is not about how good we can get, it is about us believing in Christ Jesus and sincerely choosing to not sin. Then if we do mess up and sin, we are not condemned, but the perfection of Christ Jesus is accounted to us just as if we had not sinned! So we are still perfect in God's eyes and not separated from Him or His Kingdom! The Bible tells us that there are many false teachers that tell us that because of what Christ has done... all is forgiven and we do not have to be concerned about what we do. Some even only say "just believe that Christ died for your sins and all is forgiven and to do anymore than that is wrong". However that is a half-truth from Satan to rob us of our Salvation in Christ Jesus. Jesus said anyone who believes in Him will be saved. Did He mean only believe that He died for our sins? No. He means believe in who He is, believe in what He said. In the Bible in the book of John chapter 1 it says "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind." In the Bible in the book of 1 John it says "That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete.
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us."
And He, God, said a lot more than just believe He died for your sins. Acts 11:18 sums this up when it says that God has granted to the gentiles repentance that leads to life. Almost all translations of the Bible use the word "repentance" in this verse. A few however use other words. So why am I so certain that "repentance" is the correct translation, other than the fact that it is by far the one most used by translators? It is because the whole Bible is about us changing our ways from doing things our way to doing them God's way. And it is about doing so because we decide to trust God and believe all that He says. And part of what He says is about doing what He says to do, and not doing what He says not to do. "Repentance" means having the attitude that one must do their best to obey God because one believes He is right and says what is right. Why? Because He is God! We are so wonderfully blessed now that Christ Jesus has suffered and died for our sins so that when we repent we can be forgiven! No matter how often we fail to do things God's way, we can be forgiven just as if we had never failed to do so, as long as we have a sincere attitude of repentance. It is not about how well we perform, it is about how sincere we are in believing God.
And repentance and believing God is not the only reason to do what He says and not do what He says to not do. It is for our own welfare to obey Him. In the Bible the book of Mathew chapter 7 verses 24 through 27 Jesus says “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” Doing what God says in His Word the Bible is for our blessings and protection.
