We are in a WAR! We do not have to look to fantasy to involve ourselves in a supernatural battle between good and evil! We live our very lives in that battle every single day! The battle is spiritual, and it effects and affects our lives every single moment!
For those who have no concept of what I am talking about let me explain. The term "spiritual" as used here refers to:
Our living souls which are our spirit and by which we inhabit these natural bodies. The Bible refers to our bodies as our "tents". It is our souls that live forever after our bodies die, and our souls are sent either to Hell's eternal punishment separated from God, or to Heaven living with God forever as friends and family under His perfect Lordship; the term "Spiritual" also includes supernatural living entities called demons and Angels as they are described in the Bible which can influence or change things using weapons and power that people do not have on their own and can't perceive naturally; and the term "spiritual" includes the experiences the actions of Angels or demons cause.
Another simple way of defining the meaning of "spiritual" as used here is to think of it this way:
Even though God created us as spirits, or souls, we are confined to and limited to the powers and abilities of our natural bodies. Natural things are limited by the natural, physical laws. We must rely on the abilities of our physical bodies. I cannot pass through walls and I cannot know directly what someone else is thinking or feeling. I have to experience natural evidence concerning communication.
Spiritual beings like God, angels, demons, and the devil, do not have the same natural limits as humans and can communicate and travel spiritually. Under certain conditions demons can inhabit us, and at times control us. Angels and demon also can, as much as God allows, do physical things, and use supernatural power to make things happen. God can also give us His supernatural power to do things.
God our Father in Heaven, and His Son who became Jesus Christ when He became a man, and the Holy Spirit, and angels, are spiritual entities that are truly and completely good. They know and only practice the emotional and mental attitudes that result in behaviors that are beneficial. These entities are described by Jewish and Christian scriptures in the old and new testaments of the Bible.
There are spiritual entities that are truly evil. They know and practice the emotional and mental attitudes that result in behaviors that are against God and bring suffering. These entities are Satan and his demons as described by Jewish and Christian scriptures in the old and new testaments of the Bible. Satan was once an angel, but Satan chose to thoroughly rebel against God its creator. Demons are angels that went with Satan when Satan rebelled against God. Satan and his demons were cast out of Heaven and sent to earth.
We cannot accurately comprehend the truth concerning this war, and how it effects us, unless God reveals it to us.
Satan does not have the power to defeat God directly so he works to defeat Him by destroying or stealing His Kingdom. God's Kingdom potentially includes us. Even though God gives us the power to choose to overcome all doubt and believe Him, He also chose to give us a free will, and He chose to never allow Himself to violate our free will. God always identifies Himself when He asks us to believe in Him. Satan does not identify itself to us unless it serves Satan to do so. Satan knows that our natural bodies (which includes our brains) cannot comprehend or believe God, and that therefore our bodies work against us when God works to convince us to choose to believe Himself, God. Satan works to enslave our wills by using our bodies against us. Satan does not even always let us know it is Satan influencing us. Satan knows that unless we choose to believe God we cannot overcome our body's disbelief. So Satan takes advantage of this and works to trick and manipulate us into believing our bodies instead of God. Thus we end up doing what Satan wants us to do. Unless we choose to believe God, Satan deceives each one of us. Most of us aren't even aware that we are serving Satan and since Satan is purely evil we are then tricked by him to do evil, usually thinking it is good. But God is in control and working to save us from Satan so God does limits Satan's activities enough for us to receive God's influence and have the ability to choose to believe God. God allows Satan to do what he does so that we can decide if we want evil or good. Anytime you ever think or wonder whether there is a God, or about God the Father, or Jesus Christ, or anything about them in the Bible, it is God who is influencing you. We would never think about these things if God didn't work to reveal these things to us and convince us to believe in them.
God will not force or trick us into His Kingdom as Satan does. God forces Himself to let us make our own choice even though it hurts Him to see us choose against Him, and fall into doing evil. God allows things to be this way because He knows that if it is really our desire to do good, then He can use the evil we see ourselves doing to inspire us to believe Him when He tells us the truth.
We are not forced to choose to ignore or not believe God. God through His Holy Spirit, through the Bible, through the fighting and help of His angels, and through our experiences, works to convince us to call out to Him for salvation. God knows our limits so, because He loves us, He freely works to reveal Himself and the truth to us. He works to draw us to Him, because He knows we cannot draw close to Him on our own. He freely offers us His gift of forgiveness and relationship with Him. And the proof that loves us perfectly and wants a relationship with us is His loving action of taking our punishment upon Himself by becoming a man, Jesus Christ, and dying in our place on the cross. He freely offers us the gift of being considered as perfect as He is by covering us with His "Robe of Righteousness" once we have chosen to repent and believe in Him. In choosing to harden our hearts against His efforts, and therefore ignore God's offer of salvation, we choose to be enslaved by Satan. Because Satan does not give us a choice we cannot escape this war or choose not to participate in it.
God offers us the choice of joining His army and becoming a Christian Soldier. God can make us into a mighty warrior able to fight for our salvation and the salvation of others.
