A Christian Soldier is...
The LIGHT in a dark world...
TRAINING…
The TEST…
Okay! You have decided to become a Christian soldier! You have understood that we are in a WAR! You have understood that we must be a Christian soldier to defeat the eternal despot Satan! You have understood that we must fight for the freedom of others! There is no greater or more glorious purpose in this life! For this concerns eternal destiny for ourselves and others!
No! We will humble ourselves and join the army of the Prince of Light Jesus Christ! We will allow the creator, and sustainer of Life, to train us to be His soldiers!
Or will you? Have you counted the cost? Will you enlist in the army but quit when the going gets rough? IT WILL GET ROUGH! This is a real war with real threats. If you have read this far you should have already realized that you really have to be willing to give up EVERYTHING IN THIS WORLD NECESSARY to become Christ's soldier. You have to realize that you must give up your very self to Jesus Christ!
Remember! You cannot do this using your own strength! All this can only be done by faith in, and love for, Jesus Christ. The first power God has given you is the power to choose. Your work is to choose to resist the enemy and your natural urging to not believe God, and to choose instead to believe God. When you sincerely choose to believe God He will give you His power by living in you through the Holy Spirit, to do the rest. The Holy Spirit living in us gives us all that we need including the power to overcome sin and do everything else God asks us to do, we just have to choose to do it so God can make it happen through the Holy Spirit's power in us. That does not mean choosing to believe, love, and therefore obey God is always easy, we have to also choose to work at doing it. Remember it is not the "work" that saves us, it is believing and loving God that saves us. The work is what we want to do because we believe and love God. Even though we love and believe God, since the flesh we live in and Satan are working to take us away from believing and loving God, we still have to make a choice to respond to our faith in and love for God and choose to continue to believe and love Him. So our first battle is to not let our enemy or our natural self convince us to again harden our hearts against God's influence. God regenerates us and His Holy Spirit comes to live in us, but He still does not take away our free will. The enemy will work as hard as possible to steal us back from God. So we begin to battle right away. We will be tempted to not believe in what has taken place. Sometimes it is easy for a while to resist the urge not to believe, sometimes it is hard right away, but the challenge will come. This is because God now wants to train us to be mature and complete. So we will have our faith and love challenged so that it can become stronger. And then we can better defeat the enemy.
If we find that our faith and/or love has slackened, we do not have to panic! We can simply confess our failure and recommit ourselves to resist the urge that is against having faith in and love for God. As long as we are sincere God will forgive us because of Christ's death for our sins. If not immediately, we will find our faith and love renewed, and God will carry on just as if we had never failed!
Christ's suffering and crucifixion takes the punishment for our failures!
If you doubt your sincerity then ask God to convince you to be sincere. The fact that you want to be sincere is evidence that He is drawing you. The fact that you would ask is evidence that you are sincere enough to work to resist the urges to not be a Christian. Just keep on doing this and He will convince you.
The Bible describes some of the characteristics of real Christians:
we want to repent of our sins;
we want to profess our faith in Christ Jesus;
we experience a lack of love for the world and its things;
we strive to rid ourselves of all hatred for our brethren;
we strive to obey all of God's known instructions;
we strive to love and take care of our brethren;
we do what we can to help those who do not have enough food, clothing, shelter, etc., and to visit our brethren in prison;
we give up things for God and others.
New Christians aren't necessarily aware of all these changes in their character, or do these things well, but they will, sooner or later, experience awareness of such changes and seek to do these things as well as possible.
I have not nearly had the chance yet to tell you about all the help God gives us so that we can have victory over the enemy and our nature. God not only draws us, give us faith in Him, and sends His Holy Spirit to live in us and give us the power to overcome sin, He also gives us practical instruction on how to win against our bodies, the Devil and his demons, and the ways of this world we live in. How to have victory in this war! So now I shall tell you God's instructions for winning against our sinful flesh, and Satan!
